Sayulita-Villa-Zafiros-02.jpg

In the summer of 2013 we enlisted the help of an award winning architect and his amazing crew of craftsmen. Six months later our dream came alive. Once a surfer’s hangout, Villa Zafiros now consists of four spectacular levels, each designed with every detail in mind.

We want to acquaint you with VZ, level by level, in the description below. But first let’s talk about the most valuable asset Villa Zafiros has to offer. Location, location, location.

VZ’s location is prime and in Sayulita that’s important. Although surrounded by lush green space, you’re only one block from the plaza, the church, restaurants and the vibrant energy that is Sayulita. Two more short blocks and you’re standing before the Pacific Ocean. The beach, the surf and the sun… all waiting for you. Because of the central location it’s an easy walk for most people. If you prefer, however, we can recommend a nearby golf cart or car rental agency. VZ includes a parking space just outside the gates.

Staying at VZ will offer you easy access to convenience stores, local grocers, French bakeries and more. Enjoy being a part of the community, greeting the locals as you walk down Calle Gaviotas, watching children play and families gather. There’s no doubt about it. You’re in the heart of Mexico.

Of course, there are other neighborhoods in Sayulita. The Gringo Hill area has rental homes but it’s a steep climb. And people staying out North or South tell us it’s a long walk and they miss being near the beach and village. The road leading up to Villa Zafiros is cobblestone, just like the main roads winding through Sayulita.  Some roads leading to other rental properties are dirt and a few are almost impassable depending on the season.

If you want total silence in the evening, stay out North.
If you want a long and steep hike, stay in Gringo Hill.
If you are one of the lucky few selected each year to stay at Villa Zafiros, you’ll agree, it’s the perfect location.
Now, let us show you around.

Level One

Secured by a large, well lit entrance gate, you’ll step onto the cobblestone path leading to the inviting, secluded garden room. Surrounded by lush landscape, this outdoor living space stays true to VZ’s attention to detail with locally crafted seating, ceiling fans, lighting details and a fully equipped bar. The garden bar and lounge make for a comfortable and relaxing experience day or night.  Stop off here at the end of an adventurous day, in between dips in the pool or steal away for a night cap after everyone else is asleep.

As you enter the garden room you’ll pass by the stunning mural of Frida Kahlo, a beloved Mexican icon. This remarkable original was painted by an amazing muralist from Mexico City. With sapphire in hand, Frida sets the stage for your stay at Villa Zafiros.

For your convenience the garden room has a private bathroom. The outdoor stone shower will refresh you after a day of fun in the sand and surf and before heading to the pool. Oversized beach towels are provided. You’ll find them in the wooden cabinet across from the garden bar. Hang them to dry on the nearby wooden railing and they’ll be ready for your next splash. See, we’ve thought of everything.

Level Two

As you climb the winding steps leading to the entrance of the villa, you’ll see a short garden path to your right. These few steps take you to the second level, the custom designed pool and pool terrace which projects over the walkway below.  From the pool level, nestled under a 100 year old fig tree, the views begin to unfold. This enchanted tree provides revolving shade throughout the day. And you’ll feel the positive energy every moment you’re near it.

The pool is 5 feet deep with a shallow shelf for adult lounging or for children (with adult supervision). The pool terrace is furnished with custom designed Acapulco chairs and a daybed for napping or basking in the sun’s rays. We are fortunate to have bougainvilleas growing all around our property, blooming in every direction.

Level Three

The third level begins as you step inside Villa Zafiros for the first time. Polished grey concrete floors flow into the vibrant colored walls. The colors that make Mexico distinct and so special. With custom wooden windows, doors, cabinets and tables throughout, you’ll find that every inch of VZ was well planned. Upon entering, to your left, you'll encounter a balcony. Linger here for a view of the pool, the village, the mountains and the pristine ocean as far as your eyes can see. With the balcony doors and all the windows open, the third level merges indoor and outdoor living spaces.  Ocean breezes are prevalent due to our coveted northern orientation.

On the third level you’ll find two private air-conditioned bedrooms, each with opaque Mexican glass windows built into beautiful locally harvested wood frames. These guest rooms are furnished with new queen mattresses and display the works of regional Mexican artists including  lighting, bed linens, chairs, dressers and artifacts.  Open the back windows for a view of the garden greenery just outside your windows, secured with tasteful and high end wrought iron designed for VZ. The window in the first bedroom opens up to a gorgeous view of the pool and pool terrace. The second bedroom opens onto the dining terrace and the greenery surrounding it. Each room has a ceiling fan and in the High Season (November through May), you’ll enjoy sleeping with the windows open, under the cool night breezes. In the Low Season (June through October), the bedrooms will cool down in minutes with our high efficiency A/C units.

Centered between the guest rooms you’ll find a bathroom complete with a large stone shower, custom wood cabinets and a built-in safe for cash and document storage. The safe is ready for your private combination code to be programmed.

Step out of the bedrooms into our sala (living room), with black leather-strap designer Acapulco chairs and traditional equipale seating. A comfortable daybed fills the space between the sala and kitchen. Perfect for relaxing while others gather and cook.

Our kitchen contains everything you’ll need including a new, large capacity stainless refrigerator/freezer, Agua water dispenser, plates, silverware, cookware, spices, and a pantry for food storage. You can sit at the beautiful wood island, plug in your laptop or music device, cook or check in with family and friends via hi-speed, wifi internet. The kitchen is also equipped with a new gas range.  A double sink and serving window look out to the expansive dining terrace.  The thick, hand-crafted concrete counter tops, infused with polished blue glass, are another reminder of the jewel that inspired Villa Zafiros. Look out to the ocean in High Season and you may see whales breaching. Yes … from the kitchen!

The massive wooden dining table on the terrace was designed by us. The huge slab of wood was hand-picked from a carpintería in nearby Mezcales. The table can easily be expanded to seat eight by adding the equipale chairs from each guest room. The dining terrace is surrounded by palm trees and other native plants. Private and serene, you will enjoy dining in the jungle while perfectly positioned to watch the sunset over Punta Sayulita.

Level Four

Climb the covered, outdoor stairway to the fourth level, open the beautiful wrought iron door and you’ll find paradise right before your eyes. Designed to meet your every need, you’ll never want to leave the Villa Zafiros master suite. So elegantly appointed, a near 360 degree view from four stories up, this 900 sq ft of living space truly is the crowning achievement of Villa Z.

A pergola-covered master bar with sink, refrigerator and coffee pot. Cocktail hour or morning coffee. Why not both? The soothing sound of the rooftop fountain. The rail bar for whale watching or enjoying a glass of wine at sunset. A large daybed for sunning or lounging. And enough terrace seating for everyone to enjoy the scenery from up top.

Step across the custom hand-made traditional tile floors and the slight step up into the master bedroom. Built within a glass box, take in the amazing views even with your head on the pillow.  Look up and you’ll see our beautifully woven palapa (thatched) roof.

For your comfort the master houses a new king-sized bed and built-in wooden wardrobe for your use. A private toilet room and the open shower, with a bird's eye view of the massive fig tree just outside. Again, indoor and outdoor living converges. The double sink counter top, with stone basins, looks out onto the branches of the giant fig giving the impression you’re living in a 5-star tree house. With the doors open, the constant ocean breeze keeps it cool almost year round. If necessary, the master suite is designed to close all of the doors and windows in order to utilize the air conditioner and ceiling fan.  Quickly cool it down for your sleeping comfort. That is, if you find time to sleep.
